The British Business Bank’s Enable schemes offer support for finance companies lending to SMEs, either by providing a guarantee for a portion of the credit loss the funder may suffer, or by providing access to institutional investors. The Enable Guarantee provided to finance companies offers the potential for enhanced risk management, improved capital efficiency (driving profitability ratios) and lending growth.
Accessing these schemes inevitably requires the lender to achieve a range of eligibility and reporting criteria. One notable area is in terms of ESG, both at a policy level and in the reporting of CO2 emissions.
Notably, few finance companies currently have robust or comprehensive emissions reporting on their portfolio and are unable to show how they support wider net zero aspirations of parent banks or investors.
Working with our strategic partner STH Consulting, our approach to emissions reporting overcomes issues that have historically prevented finance companies from developing a successful emissions reporting capability including breath of coverage across the diversity of a full asset finance portfolio; full Scope 3 reporting including upstream and downstream emissions; the ability to report, analyse and make credit decisions at both asset and portfolio level; accessibility through APIs, dashboards and reporting; and the ability to make sense of and enhance legacy asset data of variable quality and formatting standards.
Using specialist methodologies and datasets, our approach empowers finance companies to quickly achieve reporting obligations and underpin net zero strategies. The improvement in underlying data quality can also improve risk management and decision-making.
